CSA Shares
“Getting a CSA box every year from Greenwave Gardens not only means that we get the freshest and most unique organic produce there is, but that we are supporting local farmers in living a way of life that is caretaking of the land.” - Steve and Melinda Sauder
Green Wave Gardens is now offering a vegetable and fruit CSA program
that begins the first Saturday in June, and runs through the third week of
October. The 20 week program includes a variety of fruits and vegetables
grown exclusively by Green Wave Gardens. We have two share options; the
Full Share will feed a family of four for a week, while the Half Share
will feed a family of two. We also offer a Late Season CSA that runs the
last 10 weeks, August 14th to October 16th. All CSA
Shares receive 15% off our market prices. Due to the number of CSA Shares
being limited, please email info@greenwavegardens.com
or call (509) 732-8896, for an application and more information.
If you would like additional fruits or vegetables, please contact Green
Wave two days in advance to have your order completed. Email and phone
messages are both accepted and will be returned. Additional produce will
require payment upon delivery or pick up. Any additional produce will also
be priced 15% below our market prices.

Spokane Farmers’ Market Debit System
For our Spokane Farmers’ Market customers, we are now offering a new
“Debit System” this year. Instead of receiving a weekly box, one can
receive a line of credit that allows the customer to shop directly at our
market stand and still receive 15% off market prices. Each week, the
dollar amount of the produce chosen will be deducted from the account.
This plan is perfect for people who want to take part in a CSA program,
but are at times too busy during the season to receive a weekly box. It
also allows complete control over the produce received from week to week.
For example, if a customer wants to process tomatoes one week, they are
able to get as many as are needed. Early arrival at market is strongly
recommended for this program, as we operate on a “first come, first
served” basis for all of our market customers.
What
is a CSA?
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. There are many
beneficial and important reasons for choosing a CSA. The CSA concept is
very simple. The farmers and consumer join together to create a market for
reasonably priced, local, and organic food. The consumer enrolls into a
CSA program and pays their share fee in early spring to help pay for the
farmers’ operating costs for the upcoming year. By enrolling, the consumer
is doing more than purchase food from a grower. They are allowing the
farmer to farm with interest-free operating capital. In return for their
investment, a share holder receives a steady supply of fruits and
vegetables throughout the growing season. It is a great way for farmers
who are trying to achieve their goals to have a mutually beneficial
relationship with consumers, practice environmental sustainability, and
educate the public & consumers on contemporary farm issues. Because there
are no guarantees that all crops will succeed, the consumer shares a
financial risk along with the farmer; however, the risk is small at Green
Wave Gardens considering the extensive varieties grown, much like farming
before the rise of monoculture crops. If one crop fails, many others are
available to fill-in the gap.
Many people do not realize the distance the average pepper or tomato
travels to get to the produce section. On average, food makes a 1,300 mile
trip to get to the store and then into the consumer’s hand. In comparison,
the average CSA travels 200 miles and goes from the farm to the consumer
in less than 48 hours. Each day that produce travels, it loses bits of its
nutrition. CSA’s therefore, provide more nutritious food than you are able
to buy at a typical store. CSA produce does not go through the extensive
refrigeration, waxing, fumigation, or irradiation that is required to
increase shelf life of conventional produce. Since there is no middle man
involved, a CSA is able to deliver high-quality products at below market
prices.
